About the programme
The NPQML is a new qualification that provides national recognition of your leadership development and professional achievement as a middle leader. A National College for School Leadership course and part of their new modular curriculum, it replaces the popular Middle Leader Development Programme (MLDP) which has been successfully run by the Leadership and Training Centre with primary and secondary schools across Milton Keynes for the last few years. Under licence from the Thames Valley School Partnership this new version of the course is being offered by Milton Keynes Teaching School Alliance in collaboration with and facilitated by the Leadership and Training Centre at Shenley Brook End School.

Who is it for?

This 10 month programme is aimed at existing or aspiring middle leaders and is designed to support you in growing the skills, confidence and knowledge to lead successful team performance and improved classroom practice. If you wish to develop effective leadership of teaching and learning in order to impact positively upon pupils’ achievement, then this is ideal at either primary or secondary level. The programme is also an important step on the route towards senior leadership for those aiming at that level.

What’s involved?

To achieve the NPQML qualification you will need to successfully complete two essential modules and one further elective model which you are free to choose from a wide range of options.

Essential modules:

· Leading teaching

· Managing systems and processes

Sample elective modules:

· Leading inclusion: achievement for all

· Leading an effective team

· Leading and developing staff

· Succeeding in middle leadership

· Leading change in improvement

· Leading in a diverse system

Each module requires up to 50 hours of blended learning which consists of workplace learning, face to face activity, peer and facilitated learning, reading, reflection and online learning. As with all NCTL courses it offers high quality learning materials, opportunities to think about the implications for your own leadership with coaching support and an assessment that focuses upon tasks linked to the school improvement activities you are undertaking in your school.

The qualification is accredited by the NCTL and can be used to contribute towards a Masters degree. The course is at Masters level and quality assured by Brunel University with whom you will have associate studentship for the duration of the course.

What if I have done MLDP and would like to do more middle leadership training?

You are welcome to continue to develop your middle leadership skills through the study of the two essential modules at a reduced price. You may wish to consider the NCTL’s new course for senior leaders; NPQSL.
