Dyslexia is prevalent in schools. One in ten pupils are diagnosed with Dyslexia while many others demonstrate some of the traits. It is a learning difference that manifests itself as a combination of strengths and weaknesses that affect the learning process involved in reading, spelling, writing and sometimes numeracy. Learning problems arise if dyslexia is not recognised and the teaching is not adapted to support the pupil.
The creating a dyslexia friendly classroom session offers practical advice and activities that would help to support the learning of children that are suspected to be within the Dyslexic Spectrum.
The overall aim of the course is to give staff:
- An increased knowledge of signs to look for with pupils that may be falling behind with reading, spelling and writing
- More confidence in dealing with pupils with dyslexia and classroom strategies that can be put in place to support pupils
This course is aimed at class teachers, SENCOs and teaching assistants across all key stages.
